Department purpose

A&O Shearman eDiscovery are uniquely positioned within the firm to offer data services externally to our clients and internally to other departments as well as offering our core services to the Disputes team. The ability to provide professional and innovative eDiscovery services is a key part of the Disputes strategy going forward. The ability to combine our legal expertise with data-driven solutions to our clients is a compelling story to tell.

Role purpose

The eDiscovery Manager is responsible for providing eDiscovery guidance and support on US-based disputes matters. The role is based in San Francisco and will report to the US eDiscovery Senior Manager.

Role and responsibilities

  • Managing and performing day-to-day activities of multiple, concurrent matters to meet or exceed budgeted billable hours
  • Proactively satisfying internal client expectations and requirements
  • Applying A&O Shearman best practice policies and guidelines to all eDiscovery matters including the routine application of advanced analytics and active learning
  • Providing Relativity support including user access and security permissions, review workflow set-up and support, application of search logic and text analytics features and creation of native and/or tiff productions for disclosure
  • Delivering high-quality customer service thereby fostering internal client relationships
  • Establishing and maintaining solid working relationships with complementary services, such as Advanced Delivery Legal (ADL) and Project Management (PM)
  • Taking ownership of all aspects of assigned matters including project financials
  • Facilitating engagement with third-party document review and data collection service providers when necessary
  • Determining allocation of work to assigned project team members
  • Contributing towards the continuous improvement of departmental working practices
  • Promoting and portraying eDiscovery and associated practices in a positive manner
  • Delivering end-user training sessions
  • Assisting with monthly eDiscovery operational finances
  • Maintaining and increasing industry-specific knowledge through software training, A&O courses and attendance at software demonstrations and other industry events

Key requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience required
  • Current and extensive Relativity administration experience
  • Hold or be willing to obtain the Certified Relativity Expert credential
  • Excellent customer-oriented service ethos
  • Experience with data processing tools such as Relativity or Nuix
  • Understanding of forensic data preservation tools and techniques
  • Working knowledge of the entire EDRM
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail including working methodically and conducting QC
  • Ability and willingness to challenge
  • Flexibility with respect to assigned tasks and engagements due to changing deadlines, deliverables, and task priorities
  • Ability to work apace and under pressure
  • Flexibility to work beyond office hours on occasion
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to travel
  • SQL experience advantageous
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Law advantageous

For individuals assigned to or hired for this opportunity in San Francisco, the estimated annualized base salary range for this position is $112,000 - $157,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and other job-related factors permitted by law.
