VP of Legal & Compliance - PE backed Fintech

Overview:

A fast-growing, private equity-backed fintech company specializing in asset-backed consumer credit products is seeking a strategic and hands-on Vice President of Legal & Compliance. This senior leadership role will report directly to the executive team and serve as a legal advisor across all facets of the business. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in consumer lending, including experience with mortgage or other secured lending products.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the legal and compliance officer, advising senior management on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters affecting the business.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations governing consumer credit, including TILA, RESPA, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP, and relevant state-specific licensing requirements.
• Oversee and manage licensing, regulatory filings, audits, and examinations at both the state and federal levels.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to support a robust compliance framework aligned with industry best practices and investor expectations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, risk, operations, and technology teams to ensure compliant product development and marketing practices.
• Manage relationships with outside counsel and regulatory bodies as needed.
• Monitor and assess the impact of regulatory developments and help guide the company's response.

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Minimum of 5 years of legal and compliance experience in the mortgage or consumer lending sector, preferably in a fintech or financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of asset-backed lending products and the regulatory environment in which they operate.
• Demonstrated ability to build, implement, and scale legal and compliance programs in high-growth or entrepreneurial settings.
• Excellent communication skills and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset.
