Job Description:

Our client, a Data Infrastructure and Analytics firm, is revolutionizing risk management and fraud detection within the construction and insurance ecosystem. Their platform leverages workers' compensation, general liability, and motor vehicle accident data — combined with open-source intelligence (OSINT) and advanced machine-learning models — to help carriers, contractors, and defense counsel identify fraudulent claims, high-risk sites, and claimant networks.

As the company scales its partnerships with insurers, contractors, and legal teams, it is seeking a Vice President of Legal Operations to design and lead the buildout of a world-class legal, compliance, and claims infrastructure supporting complex litigation workflows, data partnerships, and enterprise expansion.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Strategy & Operations

  • Partner with executive leadership and defense counsel to define and execute the organization’s legal operations roadmap.
  • Build scalable systems to track claims, depositions, motions, and litigation outcomes across the company’s platform.
  • Develop and implement playbooks, templates, and workflows for subpoenas, fraud reporting, and motion practice.
  • Oversee contract lifecycle management for insurer, subcontractor, and data-provider agreements.

Claims & Litigation Support

  • Translate fraud analytics and risk insights into actionable litigation strategies for carrier and counsel partners.
  • Standardize discovery, subpoena response, and motion drafting workflows to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with New York civil court procedures and insurance regulatory frameworks.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Maintain compliance with state and federal data privacy laws (HIPAA, NY DFS, GDPR, as applicable).
  • Oversee frameworks related to workers’ compensation, general liability, and subcontractor insurance.
  • Anticipate and mitigate regulatory and litigation risks associated with data ingestion, analytics, and claims processing.

Team Leadership

  • Build and lead a scalable legal operations team focused on process efficiency and cost optimization.
  • Manage outside counsel and vendor partnerships, ensuring alignment, quality, and value.
  • Establish and track KPIs to measure legal team effectiveness and report leadership insights.

Candidate Profile

Seniority

  • 3+ years of experience in legal operations, corporate law, or insurance defense (ideally 4–5+ years).

Work Experience

  • Practicing lawyer experience at a high-growth startup or law firm within relevant industries.
  • Familiarity with highly regulated sectors (e.g., medtech, cybersecurity, data brokerage, consumer reporting).
  • Excited to apply legal expertise in a client-facing, operational, and product development capacity.
  • Open to candidates with litigation experience.

Education

  • JD and an active New York Bar membership are required.

Hard Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal labor laws.
  • Familiarity with PII management and data privacy regulations.

Soft Skills

  • Innovative and process-driven mindset — able to balance strategy with execution.
  • Entrepreneurial and analytical approach, thriving in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to design scalable systems and legal processes with minimal risk.
