Job Description

An international law firm with offices in Manhattan is seeking a Legal Assistant with 1-3 years of experience to join their team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a legal support role and experience supporting a team of associates and partners. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to further develop their legal career in a challenging and rewarding environment.

Salary

$70-90k + bonus

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with drafting and formatting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, contracts, and agreements.
  • Conduct legal research using various resources such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case preparation and document drafting.
  • Manage and organize case files, including indexing documents, updating case management systems, and ensuring all relevant materials are easily accessible.
  • Coordinate client communications, including scheduling appointments, answering inquiries, and maintaining communication to keep clients informed about case developments.
  • Assist with court filings, including preparing and filing documents with the court, and ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
  • Provide general administrative support, including covering the front desk during breaks, answering phones, managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and handling correspondence.
  • Assist with billing tasks, including preparing invoices, tracking billable hours, and maintaining accurate records of time spent on various tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with legal regulations and standards, including confidentiality requirements and data protection laws.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals to support the overall functioning of the legal team.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities to enhance legal knowledge and skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a legal support role.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research and document drafting.
  • Familiarity with legal databases such as LexisNexis and Westlaw.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
