Korn Ferry has partnered with a nationwide premier planning, engineering & environmental consulting firm in a search of an experienced attorney to lead the legal and risk function. Title is tentatively Director of Legal Services and Risk Management or General Counsel. The company has a mature foundation, strong leadership, and a stability that allows its legal leader to focus on impact rather than turbulence. As of 2025, the company has approximately 1,000 employees and a revenue of $200M+.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a highly visible leadership role working shoulder to shoulder with the executive leadership and shapes enterprise‑level business, legal and risk strategy, supports organizational decision‑making, and helps drive performance across the company.

As the sole attorney, this role is responsible for:

  • overseeing all corporate legal functions and managing enterprise risk
  • provides strategic legal counsel to executive leadership
  • ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • manages contractual and project-related risks
  • leads initiatives to protect the company’s reputation, safety, and financial success
  • provides oversight of professional liability insurance and engagement with external counsel as needed

The Successful Candidate 

  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive corporate counsel experience, including at least 10 years in a leadership role within a engineering professional services or related firm
  • Experience in risk management and professional liability insurance oversight
  • JD degree; an additional degree in Risk Management or Civil Engineering is highly desirable
  • Admission and good standing with a state bar
  • Has a business-minded approach with the ability to align legal strategy with broader organizational objectives and operational realities
  • Has a strong executive presence and high emotional intelligence
  • Proven experience partnering with business leaders to negotiate contracts with customers to close and managing change orders as needed
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with executives and operational teams, including paralegal/admin support

Location:

  • Remote or in-office flexible in Florida or Pennsylvania. Travel required up to 15%.

Compensation:

  • Base compensation range of $200-300k plus 20-30% bonus. No LTI.
