Summary

The Director of Conflicts and Legal Ethics is a pivotal role within the firm, responsible primarily for leading the firm’s conflicts, new business intake, and lateral attorney conflicts functions. This role works closely with partners and firm management to facilitate the firm’s strategic objectives while maintaining compliance with applicable legal and ethical regulations and mitigating risks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a highly productive, effective, client-focused team covering multiple aspects of new business intake and lateral attorney conflicts, including  
  • analysis and resolution of potential legal and business conflicts  
  • drafting and negotiation of waivers and engagement letters  
  • lateral attorney conflicts clearance  
  • Provide expert advice on conflicts, ethics, risk, and compliance issues to partners and firm management.
  • Improve and enhance existing processes and systems and identify and recommend opportunities for evolution and innovation.
  • Develop and deliver conflicts and other ethics and risk training at all levels of seniority.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop more junior members of the conflicts and compliance team; foster a collegial culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and excellence.
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote a firm-wide culture of compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative developments affecting the firm, to ensure that the firm’s policies and procedures remain current.

Requirements

  • JD required.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in a law firm, with a strong background in conflicts of interest.
  • Significant knowledge of the rules applicable to lawyers and significant experience navigating complex conflicts issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Commercial and pragmatic approach.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills and demonstrated ability to manage a team and work confidently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels, inside and outside of the Firm.
  • Excellent work ethic, organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility to manage a varied workload.
  • Excellent character and personal integrity to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to accommodate different time zones and occasional travel.

Compensation

$450,000.00-$500,000.00, plus bonus.
