Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree or higher with preference for experience in public education and regulatory/legal compliance and Juris Doctor degree. Eight years in education; Experience in a leadership role in a compliance-related role preferred.
GOAL
Work to ensure that Cherokee County School District operates in full compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies. This role involves overseeing legal risk management, providing guidance on legal matters, and advising relative to policies that promote a safe, fair, and legally sound educational environment.
Representative Duties & Responsibilities
- Act as a key liaison with CCSD attorneys, ensuring strict adherence to legal procedures and compliance with relevant laws, while facilitating clear communication and collaboration between legal teams and District divisions and departments.
- Oversee and coordinate all legal matters for the school district, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, managing legal risks, and collaborating with attorneys to address complex issues while ensuring alignment with the District’s priorities.
- Investigate allegations of misconduct that may violate School Board policies, procedures, or state and federal laws, ensuring thorough and impartial assessments.
- Evaluate and inform District processes to improve pro-active compliance across all divisions and school sites.
- Coordinate data reporting requirements to state and federal authorities.
- Establish protocols and monitor schedule for routine division, department and school audits.
- Establish schedule of board, state and federal reporting requirements and manage proactive activities for data collection, reporting and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate district data reporting requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate the processing of Open Records Requests, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant responses in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements, while maintaining transparency and fostering positive community relations.
- Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources to ensure the Employee Compensation and Staffing Allocation Handbook remains current, incorporating all relevant legal and policy changes.
- Act as the District's designated Title IX Coordinator, overseeing compliance with Title IX regulations.
- Collaborate with the Office of School Leadership and Operations to ensure the Student/Parent Handbook and Code of Conduct are consistently updated to reflect the latest legal and policy changes, ensuring the District’s guidelines remain compliant, clear and aligned with best practices, fostering a positive and legally sound educational environment.
- Ensure consistent application of School Board policies across the district, providing guidance and oversight to maintain uniformity in decision-making and adherence to established standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Evaluate and implement changes to compliance processes due to new or amended statutes, regulations and/or policies.
- Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.
- Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
- Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to assignments.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
- Serve on system committees as requested.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
