US Legal Learning Manager
Job Description:
Reporting to the US Head of Talent, the US Legal Learning Manager will primarily be responsible for the execution of learning programs and legal education learning initiatives for attorneys in the US offices of Freshfields. The candidate will assist the US Head of Talent, Learning & Development Manager, and leaders in each of the firm’s practice groups in scheduling and planning learning programs for attorneys to ensure that attorneys in Freshfields’ U.S. offices have access to the right learning at the right time to maximize professional development and growth.
Key responsibilities and deliverables
- Work closely with the US Head of Talent and Manager of Learning & Development to plan and execute learning programs for U.S. attorneys in accordance with Global and U.S. talent strategy.
- With the assistance of the L&D and Talent Coordinator, oversee U.S. Learning & Development department calendar, including collaborating with colleagues across the H.R. team and counterparts in other firm departments to ensure that learning programming is timely and integrated with other firm development initiatives and events.
- Foster relationships with leaders and Practice Resources Attorneys in U.S. practice groups to develop understanding of their legal learning needs. Create and maintain curricula that optimize learning and ensure that the U.S. associate learning experience meets practice group expectations and meets the developmental needs of associates. Contribute to top-of-class development initiatives and culture of lifelong learning.
- Work with U.S. Head of Talent and U.S. L&D team along with MBD team to maintain database of client CLE programs and create menu of external-facing CLE offerings.
- Work with practice groups to ensure that library of on demand internal learning programs are accessible to associates as a complement to live programming.
- With support of L&D and Talent Coordinator, liaise with speakers for presentations on materials and hand-outs. Make recommendations about best practices for optimizing in-class program time.
- Assist with planning for certain learning events, including developing project plans, managing event budget, (e.g., speaker, food & beverages, equipment, hotel, travel, gifts, incidentals, entertainment, restaurants), and ensuring logistics related to schedule are successfully executed.
- Compile and analyze data and report relevant information about learning goals and ROI to US Head of Talent, Learning & Development Manager, practice group leaders, and support staff department leaders as needed.
- Oversee the successful delivery of all legal learning programs through online resources, live programs, and video conferencing.
- Coordinate with CLE team members to assist with CLE compliance.
- Provide and coordinate other support to the Learning and Development and other members of the H.R. team.
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Strong client service focus with the ability to navigate complex, matrixed organizations.
- Ability to establish credibility and build strong relationships at all levels of the firm across practices and geographies
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and innovative problem-solving capabilities
- Outstanding writing and verbal communication and excellent presentation skills. Ability to effectively tailor communications for different stakeholders.
- Extremely detail-oriented, strong organizational, analytical, and excellent project management skills.
Other Qualifications
- JD a plus but not required
- 5 + years in a professional services firm, in-house or government agency preferred
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York and California or whose Manager is in New York, Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the States of New York and California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $150,000 to $225,000.
